August Cotton shouldn’t be here. When a tragic accident calls him home to Magnolia Springs, this returned Veteran adds his parents to the list of things he’s lost in recent years, right along with his IED detection dog and his left leg. As the sole guardian of his four-year-old sister, August must rely on his Marine training in raising a tiny hellion who’s as stubborn as he is. But the Corps could never prepare him for this. Nor could they prepare him for Olivia Anders, a woman who’ll stop at nothing to get her way.

As owner of Paws for Cause, Olivia is no stranger to the broken men and women who return home from war. She’s no stranger to broken dogs either. In fact, she’s made it her mission to pair the two and enrich both of their lives, but pairing ornery and aloof August Cotton will take some work. The last thing August wants is some pushy southern woman occupying his parents’ bed and breakfast and forcing him to open up about the hell he narrowly escaped, but that’s exactly what Olivia intends.

They complete one another, and yet they can’t stand to be in the same room.

Can Olivia make this hardened Marine feel again and finally show his heart the way back home?

This book is AMAZING! There are some books that stay with you forever and I have to say, this is definitely one of them.
Olivia has decided to expand her business. Little did she know when she arrived in the new location, her life was going to change forever.
August is an ex marine who keeps to himself. When Olivia comes into his life he has no clue how to deal with her. She is unlike anyone he
has ever met before.

This couple are text book perfect for each other but they both come with baggage. Huge baggage and the obstacles they need to overcome to
build a life together at times seem insurmountable.

Carmen Jenner has written a book that is so emotional and with characters that are so beautifully portrayed that is was really hard to put it down to
do those little everyday things like take the kids to school or cook the dinner!
She has drawn the emotion out of her characters and transferred it to the reader to the point it felt tangible at times.
There were some moments in August & Olivia’s story that I really wanted to jump in and comfort either or both of these characters. The support
characters that were part of their journey has their battles to face as well and it made for a brilliant dynamic and took me as a reader on one hell of a ride.

If you like books with emotion, Angst, a bit of humour with some sexy times thrown it to keep the balance then you are going to love this latest release from
Carmen Jenner. It is well worth getting your one click finger out for & I will be jumping at the 1st opportunity to get my hands on a paperback to add to my own
bookshelf too!!

I already want to read it again. You know it's a great book when as soon as you read 'The End', you want to start over and read it all over again. It's that feeling of wishing you could experience a book for the first time more than once. This is one of those books. This is the kind of story that reads like a movie. The details are all there and make you feel like you're living it yourself. Based in Alabama, and that's where I live, it makes me want to search out one of those tiny towns where you know everyone by name and move there. I live in the largest city in Alabama, but it made me miss home, where everyone waves when you drive by and you never meet a stranger. The towns where you can leave your doors unlocked without thinking someone might take advantage of that knowledge. Carmen Jenner makes me want that again. I had that when I was little. And this book just brought back that security and made me crave it.

Olivia has an important job. Helping those returning from war and saving others from being put down. It's a job that not many can do. You have to be strong and stubborn and brace enough to take on the task of helping those who are the strongest but also the weakest in a sense. It's not easy or pretty, but if there is anyone who can do it, it's her. She's seen firsthand what happens when they don't make it. How it affects the lives of those around them. She sees it has her mission to help as many as possible. Those heroes deserve it.
August has seen and experienced it all. He's returning home. A place he never thought he would go back to, but he has no choice. He has to take care of his little sister. Having lost their parents in a car accident, he has to be there for her. He's not in the best shape. He can feel the stares, hear the whispers. It doesn't bother him though. It's the nightmares and the blackouts that can get to him. And the nosy, pushy, stubborn woman who showed up on his door step. She's the last thing he needs.

Carmen Jenner created a story that I want more of. It wasn't always easy. It wasn't always pretty. But it always felt real. It felt like real life. A story I could see actually happening. This book was everything and so much more.

Excerpt

“You know, if you want to see me naked and sweaty, all you have to do is ask, darlin’.”
“I do not . . . I wasn’t . . .” My words are stolen from me as he stalks forward with a maddening smirk on his face. “What are you doing?”
“Getting tired of waiting for you to be okay with this.”
“August, we talked about boundaries.” I press my hand to his chest because he's too close, and I can't think straight with the heady scent of his sweat and sandalwood soap distracting me. It wasn't my intention to run my hand over that sweat, to feel the hard-won muscle beneath, but here I am, petting him as if he's my favorite kitty.
“No. You talked about boundaries. I told you I was gonna fight, and I ain’t above fightin’ dirty.”
“How dirty?” I breathe.
August’s lips curl up into a smile. “So dirty.”
Both hands snake around my waist and he lifts me onto the counter, wedging his hips between my thighs. He hooks a finger in the sash and unties my robe as if he were opening a gift made just for him. I wrap my legs around his hips to pull him closer, and that’s all the admission he needs. He threads a hand through my hair and pulls my neck back to expose the tender flesh to his mouth. I close my eyes and whisper his name as my whole body turns to flame, starved for the oxygen that only his touch can bring. His hot mouth trails down my neck, his hands cup my breasts, squeezing, kneading, and I slide a hand between us, into the waistband of his shorts. I take his hard length in my hand, stroking him from base to tip. August grunts as he pushes my negligee out of the way with frenzied hands. His fingers find me bare and exposed with no panties.
“So fucking’ dirty,” he groans, wetting his lips.
