MUSIC NOTES by Lacey Black ♥ BLOG TOUR & REVIEW

Music Notes Synopsis:
Sing.

That’s what I came to do.

I was prepared to do just that until I walked into my audition and saw him. Tall, mysterious, and gorgeous to boot, he was sitting at the coaches’ table with three others, ready to judge my performance, and decide my future. Yet, since I’d walked onto the stage, he continued to look at anything but me. So, I did the one thing I was there to do: sing. When I opened my mouth and let those words spill from my lips, he finally looked up. Those startling, dark eyes collided with mine with such intensity that I knew one thing for certain: I would never be the same.

I am Layne Carter, newest contestant on Rising Star, the biggest singing competition on reality television. Nothing can stop me from giving this show my all. Not my horrible diva roommate. Not the fact that I'm terribly homesick and miss my family. And certainly not my uncontrollable growing attraction to my coach, Beau Tanner, award winning country superstar. Nothing will stand in my way.

And I’m wrong.

Review by: Kathryn

I have been a fan of Lacey Black since I read her River's Edge series. She is really hitting her stride, her books just keep getting better.  Musicnotes is very different to the other books she has written and is based around a singing reality TV show.

Layne is a struggling single mother who lives with her mother and works as a bartender. Layne loves to sing, and when she sings she feels calm and centered and can forget all her worries and cares.   Layne's mother is the catalyst for her auditioning for "Rising Star", a chance to break into the music industry.  Layne has a lot to deal with, cameras watching her every move, a diva room mate from hell, and being away from her family. Layne is an amazing character, strong, confident, has a unique style and is desperate to make her dreams a reality, to give her son a better life.

The coaches all love Layne's audition and she chooses Beau Tanner to be her coach. Beau is a country music superstar.  Layne feels and instant attraction to the hottie mentor in the black cowboy hat and well fitting wrangler jeans.  Beau is honest, professional and has a big heart. They share a connection and their practice sessions become fairly intense with a lot of flirting and communicating with long lingering looks.  Beau is off-limits and the opposite of her type, she doesn't even like country music

Rumors abound. Can she stay focused?  Can she trust Beau?  Will the show prevent them from being together?  Will they keep things professional? Can she make it to the end, can she win?

I loved all the characters in this books, the supporting characters are unique and interesting and certainly gave me quite a few laughs.

This book has a unique ending with the opportunity to choose your own ending, it took me back to my childhood of choose your own adventure books.  I read both endings and can't say which i preferred as they were both really good.

Lacey Black did not disappoint this story twisted and turned and its unlike any other music based romance I have read.  Its a beautiful story, and I was enthralled right from the start and  couldn't put it down.

EXCERPT:
“I know you’re not a fan of country, but I want you to give it a shot this week. I want to slow it down this week and touch on something softer for you. Have ya heard of Faith Hill?” he asks.
“Yeah, I’ve heard of her, but I don’t know much that she sings. Wait, she’s married to the hot cowboy, right?”
Beau’s eyebrow shoots upward, disappearing completely underneath that hat. “Really?”
“Yeah, well, I may not know a lot about country music, but everyone knows Tim whatever-his-name-is.”
“Whatever-his-name-is. Oh my God,” he mumbles, eyes cast downward as he shakes his head in disbelief. “Tim McGraw is the definition of country music. I grew up listenin’ to him, singin’ his songs. He’s one of the main reasons why I chose country music.”
“Well, I don’t know about all of that, but he’s one of my favorite cowboys,” I tease.
“One of your favorites?” he asks with a big smile.
“Yeah, he’s number two,” I reply without releasing the smile I’m holding in.
“Number two. Who’s number one?” he asks, inching just a little bit closer on his stool.
“Luke somebody,” I reply as straight-faced as humanly possible. Seriously, I should get an award for this performance. I’d like to thank the Academy… Never mind the fact that I don’t even really know who this Luke guy is, but everyone is always talking about him. Something about his amazing pelvic thrusts and ass wiggles.
“I quit,” Beau says dramatically as he throws his hands up in the air.
“You quit because I don’t know who Luke is or because you’re not my favorite cowboy?”
Beau walks around until he’s standing directly in front of me. When he leans forward, his scent invades my senses, teasing me in the best possible way. When he squeezes his hands on the edges of my stool, the outsides brushing against my ass, I almost melt into a warm pile of goo.
“I think you’re lying,” he whispers, his lips a breath away from my own. My breathing comes out in short little pants as I gaze into his smoldering eyes. They’re ablaze with something deep, something dark, and something very dirty.
“About what?” I finally manager to get out through the little pants I can breathe.
“About who your number one cowboy is. I don’t think Luke somebody gets you all worked up like you are right now. I think this cowboy is the only one who gets this kinda reaction from ya. And I think that I want to test that theory,” he whispers, his breath kissing my ear.
