Book description:
Crazy how eight years can disappear in an instant. One look at Katie Watts, and I'm a fifteen-year-old again--the one who risked everything to save a terrified girl from her twisted kidnapper. She's grown-up now--beautiful, quiet, composed--and telling her story to the world. A story that involves me in more ways than you can imagine. She used to call me her guardian angel. Sure, I risked my life, but she was worth dying for.

I need to make contact with her. Just to ensure that she's safe.

Somehow we reconnect. We become friends . . . but I want more. I want to make her mine. And she wants me too. Does she know who I am? Has she figured me out? Not yet. But she will. In the meantime, I need to make sure that whatever hold that animal had on her is gone.

So, yeah, I'm stealing these moments with her. Savoring them. Knowing, dreading, that she'll soon find out who I really am. And everything will fall apart. All because of that twisted, perverted monster sitting on death row. Her kidnapper. A convicted serial killer.

My father.

Review by: Tatia

This book was like nothing else I've ever read. It was intense. It was definitely a thriller that I did not expect to come from Monica Murphy. I've actually gotten used to a certain style of story from her, so when I saw that she had another book being released, I immediately signed up to review it. Well, to say she surprised me is an understatement!
Katie was an ordinary 12 year old girl. She was ready for some freedom, to not be treated like a little kid anymore. Since she was turning 13 soon, she thought it was about time. She's usually pretty cautious of her surroundings. But you know what they say: expect the unexpected. Helping an unsuspecting stranger changed everything.
Will is not your typical 15 year old. He's seen things, been forced to experience things that most 15 year olds don't even want to think about. So when he has to help a kidnapped girl escape, it's another one of those "I cannot believe this is my life" moments. Only thing is, when he helped her, he also lost contact with her. He couldn't check on her to make sure she was ok, to talk to the only person who would understand what he'd been through. Years later when he sees an interview she did, he knows he has to find her, even if only to check on her, make sure she's ok.
I was so enthralled with this story, of everything that happened to Katie, how she dealt with it, and even what life was like for her after it. Even if it is fiction, it makes you hold your kids a little tighter at night and despise the fact that they have to grow up, that you can't protect them from everything evil in this world. This story will have you on the edge of your seat, waiting to see what happens next, how the situation unfolds. I am eagerly anticipating the next book.

Never Tear Us Apart is not for the weak of heart. It dives into the subject of rape, abduction, abuse. So if that it's a difficult subject matter I advise you not to read this story.

At the young age of 12 Katie was kidnapped and then raped by her captor. If it weren't for Will, the abductors son, Katie would have never been released and returned to her family. Fast forward 8 years later and Katherine is ready to move on, to become stronger. Taking her demons one step at a time, she goes back to the place where it all began. That's when she meets Ethan, a man who awakens everything inside of her. Except they both want to hide their secrets, eventually the secrets and lies they withhold all comes back to bite them in the butt.

Monica Murphy did a great job at depicting the issues and topic of the story. While she didn't go into too much detail about the act itself, she gave us just enough information to understand what Katie went through. While I did like this story because it went beyond everyone's comfort zone, I felt it a little drawn out. This does have a cliffhanger.
