Cam Girl by Leah Raeder ~ FMR REVIEW

ABOUT Cam Girl:

Vada Bergen is broke, the black sheep of her family, and moving a thousand miles away from home for grad school, but she’s got the two things she loves most: her art and her best friend—and sometimes more—Ellis Carraway. Ellis and Vada have a friendship so consuming it’s hard to tell where one girl ends and the other begins. It’s intense. It’s a little codependent. And nothing can tear them apart.

Until an accident on an icy winter road changes everything.

Vada is left deeply scarred, both emotionally and physically. Her once-promising art career is cut short. And Ellis pulls away, unwilling to talk about that night. Everything Vada loved is gone.

She’s got nothing left to lose.

So when she meets some smooth-talking entrepreneurs who offer to set her up as a cam girl, she can’t say no. All Vada has to do is spend a couple hours each night stripping on webcam, and the “tips” come pouring in.

It’s just a kinky escape from reality until a client gets serious. “Blue” is mysterious, alluring, and more interested in Vada’s life than her body. Online, they chat intimately. Blue helps her heal. And he pays well, but he wants her all to himself. No more cam shows. It’s an easy decision: she’s starting to fall for him. But the steamier it gets, the more she craves the real man behind the keyboard. So Vada pops the question:

Can we meet IRL?

Blue agrees, on one condition. A condition that brings back a ghost from her past. Now Vada must confront the devastating secrets she's been running from—those of others, and those she's been keeping from herself.

Review by: Kim

This book is a story about struggling to recover, struggling to understand who you are and what you want out of life.
This book gives us a girl who is so confused about what she feels and what she thinks she should feel according to the way she was raised, the way she thinks the world and everyone around her is going to feel.
Cam girl gives us Vada, who wants a normal life. She wants to be an artist and she wants to discover that great love that every girl wishes her whole life for. You know..Normal.
But because life happens...Vada finds herself having to recreate everything about herself. One moment in time changes everything and steals her gift of drawing.
Then Blue appears on Vada's screen and things change. She finds herself opening up about stuff that she hadn't even spoken to Ellis about. Blue makes her feel things.
Normal things.
Then there's Ellis. The BFF and sometimes more. Ellis wants it all with Vada. She knows who she is and what she wants out of life. Ellis has had her whole life to know who and what she is. It's not a big thing to her, but convincing Vada is a whole different can of worms.
This book is phone sex on steroids. But there's also a mystery and a puzzle to solve. One that opens the door and puts Vada in danger.
Cam girl is a F/F love story. Not really my cup of tea. But so well written and heart touching that before I knew it I was at the end.
It is a little wordy and there is a lot of talk about art. Which if you love that kind of thing then this book is definitely for you.

Review by: Tracy

We've all read the excerpt so we all know what the story is about so I'll skip that informality. I'm probably going to get stoned for this review but I need to be honest right? While I enjoyed certain aspects of this story, the rawness, the ugly parts of life. I had a hard time connecting to the main character Vada. It took me at least 50% of the book before I even started recognizing her a person, if that makes any sense. I usually make myself finish a book because there is a good possibility that things can change and get more entertaining. While yes, I did end up liking it in the end because I was finally able to connect with Vada, it took way too long for me to get there.
