Jake Undone & Jake Understood by Penelope Ward - FMR REVIEWS

About JAKE UNDONE (Jake, #1):

Nina Kennedy was alive…but not living…until she met him.

Planes, trains, heights…you name it, Nina was afraid of it and led a sheltered life ruled by irrational fears and phobias. When she moves to Brooklyn for nursing school, that life is turned upside down, as she develops an intense but unwanted attraction to her gorgeous roommate, who’s pierced, tattooed and just happens to be the smartest person she’s ever met.

Behind Jake Green’s rough exterior and devilish smile, lies a heart of gold. He makes it his mission to change Nina’s outlook on life. When he agrees to tutor her, they forge a bet and the stakes are high as Jake forces Nina to face her demons. He just wasn’t expecting to fall hard for her in the process.

What Nina doesn’t realize, is that Jake has been living his own private hell. Once he drops a bombshell, will their love survive it?

Told in two parts from both Nina and Jake’s points of view, Jake Undone is a standalone story and a companion to the novel, Gemini.

About JAKE UNDERSTOOD (Jake, #2):

From the New York Times bestselling author of Jake Undone, comes a full-length standalone companion novel and sequel.

A different side to the story: Jake’s side.

“We’re getting a new roommate,” they said.

I thought nothing of it...until she walked in the door. Her hand trembled in mine as she looked at me with fearful eyes. My entire world spun on its axis.

Nina...

It was a mismatch made in heaven: innocent girl from the boonies moves in with tattooed, pierced, badboy engineer.

I came up with a bet, a plan to tutor her in math and coach her through her phobias. What I wasn’t betting on was becoming addicted to her.

But I was living a double life on weekends, and once she found out about it, she’d be gone.

I had to protect myself and that meant one thing: I couldn’t fall in love.

In Jake Understood, pivotal scenes from Jake Undone are retold from Jake’s point of view combined with all-new material from both the past and present time where Jake Undone left off. It can stand alone but if both books are read, should follow Jake Undone. Contains graphic sexual content and harsh language. It is only appropriate for adult readers age 18+.

I absolutely LOVED this book...Jake is ...EVERYTHING you want in male lead ...WOW and Nina's pretty great too...lol.
Enjoyed the whole story ..the secondary characters as well ..it was written so well....I found myself re-reading some of Jake's words ..they were so "swoon-worthy" <~~yes that's a word ..
A few characters find themselves conflicted for lack of a better word ..it's really perfectly written ....I also found myself worried about some of the same things as Nina...so I could feel her struggle ...and Jake ..OHHHH man ..he is ...AMAZING..their story will suck you in and hold you tight..Wonderful
Skylar was a true gem ..I can't wait to dive into her story...looking forward toJake Understood...

Fears and phobias, secrets and more can make two people who are total opposites of each other more compatible and a necessity in their life.

Because, after meeting her, the only thing I could think about was that I just wanted to make her smile, take some darkness out of those beautiful blue eyes.

Jake Green is a hottie with his fit body and tattoos that gets the opposite sex all flushed over him. Afraid to get to close to anyone he resorts to quick flings with women. This playboy lifestyle is due to the fact that he has another life that no one other than his family knows about. He works in the city during the week and goes home on weekends. His roommates wonder but never really pushed and/or got an actual answer. The truth about his weekend whereabouts did not really need to be known until a beautiful blonde moves into the apartment and begins stirring things inside him that he is trying to avoid.

He brought me back to life. He brought me back to life, and he could very well be the death of me all over again. It would be worth the risk. But he’s holding all the cards.

Nina Kennedy has moved to Brooklyn to go to school for nursing. She was fortunate to be able to live with a long time friend and his two roommates. For some time now she has lived with many phobias that when she planned her moved she made sure it was where she was comfortable wherever she went. Little did she know that a bet with her roommate Jake would change her life in unexpecting ways.

I thought my life was planned until the moment I touched your hand.

WOW! This 5 stars story was soooo much to take in! Jake and Nina’s story will have you seeing hope and possibilities, will break you apart, and then begin to mend your heart. The story began all cutesy with the flirty banter along with a new outlook in overcoming fear and phobias and just when I hoped for more I was torn by Jake’s make it or break it secret life! This author has a way with her characters and it had always gotten me hooked by them. A must read pick up a copy today that will have you looking at love in a whole new way.

Penelope Ward doesn't disappoint yet again!

Reading this book made me remember just how much I actually fell in love with Jake in the first book,Jake Undone. The author has produced such a creative plot to this story that you would never expect. Although if you want more suspense than I suggest reading book one first. This book is without a doubt just as AMAZING. You got to be in Jake's head the whole time you read this and that's always a very good thing!

There were many things that you knew from the first book and then out of nowhere came things that you had no clue about. THAT is what I hoped this to be like and it was and MUCH MORE! The story is very complex and very original, not anything I could possibly be prepared for and that's coming from someone who has read hundreds of romance novels. It's a double edged sword with lots of love and very steamy scenes that will make your dreams at night help you sleep better.

Penelope Ward is known for her incredible writing skills and has written many outstanding books. She's not a New York Times Bestseller for no reason, this lady can write! And she didn't let down in this book either, so without any spoilers in this review, may I just recommend buying it and reading it.

Thank You Again Ms. Ward for yet another 5 star read!

Sidenote: This book can be read as an extension to her Gemini Series because you also get to read about characters I've loved in her books prior.

I didn't think I could love Jake anymore than I did after Jake Undone, but I was wrong! Jake Understood is the retelling of Jake's and Nina's story, but from Jake's point of view. Even though there are scenes that overlap with Jake Undone, I did not find it at all redundant. I got butterflies all over again reading about how Jake and Nina first met and how their relationship developed. We also got a lot of new scenes that were not in Jake Undone. One of my favorites is when Jake and Nina go ice skating. It was both funny and sweet.

Jake Understood starts of nine years after Jake Undone and goes between the past and the present. Sometimes it can be difficult to follow a book when it transitions like that, but I felt this book did it flawlessly. While I was reading, I imagined this book being played out like a movie and it was perfect.

There was just one scene towards the end of the book, in the elevator, that I am on the fence about. I didn't hate it, but it just felt weird and awkward to me and maybe it could have been played out differently. Overall, great book that I highly recommend. Even though this can be read as a standalone, I do recommend reading Jake Undone just to get the most out of Jake and Nina's incredible love story.

This is Jake Green’s side of the story. He is a sexy, tattooed, engineer with a secret that no one knows other than his family. His mysterious whereabouts on the weekends has been kept under wraps until a blonde beauty moves into the apartment and changes the life he already has accepted was his fate.

The Olsen twins look alike, Nina Kennedy is the intriguing girl with many phobias that moves into the apartment and captures Jake’s attention. Little did she expect that a bet with the womanizing roommate would ultimately change her life along with the intense connection that begins to grow.

“Some of the most beautiful things are those we can only enjoy from afar. The unattainability makes the attraction more intense.”

I freaking love reading from the male’s perspective! It gives me the full circle of the story especially when it takes me on such an emotional ride. This second book in the series did not fall short regardless of reliving the memories of Jake & Nina story. It had me giddy, and broken, and once again mended my heart. A great 4.5 stars read into the mind of Jake!

Nina ..is a one of a kind women ..that's for sure...I couldn't "do" what she does ...but then again you never really know until you're faced with certain things what you'll do ...the struggle is real ....
These two are AMAZING together...they have a truly beautiful relationship ..it's wonderful to see how it evolves and grows...
...I also liked the other characters interactions  with them ...it flowed well...loved the new stuff we learned from Jake's POV! Recommended Read
