This book was a 4 star read for me. I
really liked J.S. Cooper’s writing style and found it easy to read. This was my
first book by this author and I was pleasantly surprised. The story takes place
in New York and a beach on an island which drew me in right away! I really
enjoyed this book and would recommend it.
The character selection in this book threw
me a little at first. A chance meeting and then thrown together was hard for
me. As the story developed, I was able to get comfortable with them and found
myself really enjoying Bianca and Jakob. I like how they were both so head
strong and thought they could anticipate the other only to be surprised. They
both grew so much on that island individually and then together…trusting one
another.
I really loved how they kept trying to
prove each other wrong. They both came into this unfortunate situation with so
many expectations. As time went on and they spent more days together, they were
letting down walls and discovering that the person they each thought they knew
was someone different. Watching the revelation was great! “It’s not about the
money, really. It’s about knowing the truth.” Both of them were seeking truths
and even in the end they were so surprised at what truths they really found.
Great book, easy read and great
introduction to his author.

I am going to be honest. When I first started reading this book I wasn't quite sure I was going to like it. The beginning was very slow moving and didn't hold much of my interest but I pushed through. I then found myself saying WTF! W.T.F! When you read this you will think you figured what happened and how Bianca and Jakob ended up on this island together. BUT you will be WRONG. WRONG I tell you!
I am glad I decided to keep reading. Way to go J.S. Cooper you have me hooked. I can't wait to read Disillusioned and see what happens next. And yes I have my predictions already.

This story kept me on my toes! The feeling of being watched and debating who to trust gave me the chills and then throw in the kidnapping and being left on a deserted island by a stranger…it got my mind boggling!
There were moments where the plot dragged a bit but the mystery of secrets kept my brain reeling trying to piece everything together. A 3.5 stars read that will make you question what is real and what to believe, to go with your gut or to go with the flow?

“What do you mean by that?” I whispered back at him, my stomach jumping as his fingers brushed my wet hair away from my face.
“Nothing.” He shook his head. “I’m just saying, I could do what I wanted to you right now, but all I’m doing is saving you. I hope you’ll trust me after this.”
“Untie me and I’ll trust you.” I nodded, unblinking.
“Can I get a kiss as well?” His eyes sparkled as his lips came dangerously close to mine.
“What?” I closed my eyes and waited to feel his lips on mine.
“Open your eyes, Bianca.” He whispered against my lips. I could feel his breath gliding over my skin as I opened my eyes slowly. I swallowed hard as I stared up at him.
