On my Knees by Meredith Wild ~ BLOG TOUR & REVIEW

Book: On My Knees
Author: Meredith Wild
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Haunted by the responsibility of caring for her troubled family, Maya Jacobs gave the only answer she could when Cameron asked her to marry him.  Years later, entrenched in a soulless professional routine, she distracts herself from the lingering regret of her decision with a “work hard, play hard” lifestyle that guarantees no man will ever find his way into her heart again.
Cameron Bridge has spent the past five years married to the military, trying to escape the painful memory of losing Maya. After fighting his own war in the desert, he starts a new life in New York City, with his siblings, Olivia and Darren, by his side.
When fate brings Maya back to him in the heart of a city filled with its own hopes and shadows, can Cameron find the girl he once loved in the woman she’s become?

This was the first book I have read by Meredith Wild and she captivated me with this story of true unending love, love lost and the possibilities of rekindling that love.  From the prologue it had me wanting more.  Meredith sucks you in instantly.
Maya’s heart is broken before the story starts and it’s a rollercoaster ride watching it being pieced back together.

Maya was a young naïve college student, in love with the guy of her dreams.  It was like a dream come true for her to have such a wonderful guy in her life.  Cameron is beautiful in every sense of the word.  He comes from a good family and loves Maya unconditionally.  Maya can only dream to be good enough for him.

Maya’s family life is nothing to boast about and she harbors secrets that no-one knows.  She wants to have the perfect family, the perfect life – but it is far from that.  She is hiding something.  And then her world breaks apart from a decision she may regret……
Maya and Cameron have a past together, but will they be able to have a future.
After 5 years apart they run into each other by chance on a busy New York street which was the last thing Maya was expecting.

In the time they spent apart Maya has been troubled.  Her life hasn’t exactly been fulfilling, and she has changed from the naïve young college student she once was.  She is now an independent, sexy, feisty woman.  Working on Wall Street in a 9-5 job which she despises, she drowns her demons and regrets with alcohol.  Not wanting to feel anymore heartache, she has put up walls to keep herself from getting hurt.

Cameron has also changed.  He’s bigger, stronger and more beautiful than Maya remembers.  He’s straight forward, sexy and a little lost and lonely as his heart has always belonged to Maya.  He truly is a beautiful soul who is totally the most understanding man I have read about in a book.  He is patient, caring and loving.  After completing several deployments, he is moving on and starts a gym in New York.  He is still hung up on Maya, always has been.

They have both been through so much and Maya still carries her demons with her from her past that she can’t let Cameron know.  Will Maya always be haunted by her demons or will Cameron love her enough to make things work?

“Maya, we need to talk.” His hand traced a lazy path up and down my thigh.  Whether he was killing time or trying to find the right words, the motion was driving me insane.  I was still pantiless and all to accessible to his roaming touch.
“You didn’t tell me why were you so upset the other night.”
“I wasn’t,” I lied.
“You mentioned Raina last night.  Darren wasn’t lying.  There isn’t anything between us and you need to know that.”
“You can see whoever you want Cam.  I have no claim over you.”
“Yes, you do”.  His voice was soft, his eyes relaxed but more serious than they had been a moment ago.  “You’re the only one who’s ever had a claim over me”
“I wanted you last night.  It took everything I had to stop, but I couldn’t stand the idea that you’d regret it in the morning because you were so drunk.  Or worse, that you wouldn’t remember it at all.”

I loved the way this book was written in both POV.  We get insight into what each of them is thinking, feeling and wanting.  It is full of emotions and feelings.  I felt everything they were going through.  Meredith defines her characters perfectly with vivid and well developed dialogue and a plot that was page turning.  Her characters feel real, they have made mistakes, they have their flaws and issues which makes them all the more relatable to.
I loved the way Cameron was with Maya.  So loving and understanding all the time.  He truly loves her with all his heart and soul.  He always has and always will.

“I’m not judging you, goddamnit.  I’m loving you.  I give a shit.  I’m sorry if no one else cares enough to tell you no, but I’m not going to watch you fucking down yourself in booze.”
“If this is you loving me, I’m not interested.  You don’t know anything about me.”
His jaw tightened.  Because you give me nothing.  You won’t let me in.  I have to sneak around and learn anything about you.  The poems… Christ, Maya, there’s so much more there that you never give me, that you never give anyone.”

I will definitely be reading book 2 in this series.
