Big Shot - About book

BIG SHOT_Amazon

To believe one person can change your destiny sounds absurd. But it happened to me… twice.

Ten years ago I had no idea what I wanted out of life, until I met Hannah Michaels. She was a computer-engineering student ready to conquer the social media world, and I was smitten. Even though I knew she was taken, I had to have her.

Being the big shot that I was, I didn’t let her status stand in my way. It wasn’t long before my hands were on her thighs and my name a whisper on her lips. This smart, sexy girl inspired me to greatness, helped me grow into the kind of man I never knew I wanted to be. The man I am today.

Too bad I hadn’t grown fast enough to keep her.

Moving on wasn’t easy, but I knew I had to let her go. Eventually, I found someone to share my days and nights with, and together we had a daughter. My life was nearly perfect until my world turned upside down.

A single father has challenges, and one of those is learning how to calmly deal with your child coming home in tears. I had no idea the day I pounded on my daughter’s classmate’s door, Hannah would be the one standing on the other side.

The wild, burning desire that rushed through my veins was unwanted, and yet impossible to ignore. Letting her in meant so much more this time around. Guilt hit me like a hammer. I hated myself. I hated her. The problem was I really didn’t hate her—I wanted her more than ever.

But this time around, I can’t have her.

This time it’s my status that stands in our way—and going up against myself just might be the hardest thing I’ve ever done.

Review by: Tatia

This. Story. Was. Everything. This is Kim Karr's writing at its finest. Every word, every scene, every emotion. I could picture and feel it all. A story that turned out to be so deeply emotional in so many ways.

Hannah and Jace. They meet by chance. Become best friends by choice. All of the rest is just added bonuses until the one day when everything changes. Years later they happen to cross paths again, not in the best of circumstances, but the past comes and slaps them both in the face. The memories, the emotions, they all come back. Can they move forward and be friends?

I've missed stories like this that completely lock me in. They were both hurt in different ways. They'd both grown in different ways, matured in ways that adults do when they finally settle into adulthood when life has thrown the unimaginable your way. I couldn't get enough. I devoured every word and wanted more! Kim Karr definitely landed a touchdown with this one.

Jace Bennett is a single father. His wife died three years ago and now he's raising his daughter by himself. He owns a successful company, has good friends, but still he feels something is missing. If it wasn't for his daughter he would live for his work. His sad, lonely and he has a temper.
So when a boy picks a fight with his daughter at school, he is ready to go confront his parents, but what he didn't count on was the boy's mother was none other than his first love and also the women who broke his heart.

Hannah has had her own problems in the ten years since she has seen Jace. And what they had and lost changed them both and changed their lives. Hannah is smart and sassy and now she is a single parent too. So they were both not expecting to see the other again.

JULY 18 Big Shot Kim Karr Teaser 3

So how will this work, they have trust issues between them, guilt about so many things. They have a volatile relationship and its like they both can't get a grip on their emotions.

“Because feelings aren’t the issue. Trust is. And I don’t trust you.”

It seems like everything is just too much, to actually make a relationship. Jace needs to get his emotions straight and he needs to find out what it is he wants. Does he want Hannah, does he want a happily ever after. And what does Hannah want. She wants a new life, she wants to settle down and give her son a happy life. So is it something that they can do together? Or will they go on living separate lives.

I loved this story. I love stories with kids in it, and this one was no different. A Story told in the present and past, so you can see what happened in their past. The kids were adorable, I loved the scenes with Ethan, Fiona, Nick and Tess.

A Story filled with love, angst, sweetness, adorableness and so sexy. Awesome story. Can't wait to read the next one.

Kim Karr is a New York Times, USA Today and Wall Street Journal Bestselling author.

She grew up in Rochester, NY and now lives in Florida with her husband and four kids. She's always had a love for reading books and writing. Being an English major in college, she wanted to teach at the college level but that was not to be. She went on to receive an MBA and became a project manager until quitting to raise her family. Kim currently works part-time with her husband and recently decided to embrace one of her biggest passions--writing.

Kim wears a lot of hats! Writer, book-lover, wife, soccer-mom, taxi driver, and the all around go-to person of her family. However, she always finds time to read. One of her favorite family outings was taking her kids when they were little to the bookstore or the library. Today, Kim's oldest child is seventeen and no longer goes with her on these, now rare and infrequent, outings. She finds that she doesn't need to go on them anymore because she has the greatest device ever invented--a Kindle.

Kim likes to believe in soul mates, kindred spirits, true friends, and Happily-Ever-Afters. She loves to drink champagne, listen to music, and hopes to always stay young at heart.

The Difference Between Us by Rachel Higginson • FMR REVIEW

BLURB

I'm cursed.

At least when it comes to finding Mr. Right.

I'm tired of men that only want one night stands or blind dates that are nothing but awkward and uncomfortable. I'm tired of avoiding inappropriate text messages and the constant disappointment of always meeting Mr. Wrong.

After all these years of dates that lead nowhere, I can admit that it's me. I'm the problem. I'm shy and picky and cursed. Definitely cursed.

So I've decided two things.

The first? I'm giving up dating and relationships and men in general. Maybe, possibly, forever.

The second? I'm going to have to try harder to avoid Ezra Baptiste.

If I couldn't hack it in the kiddy pool of dating, I certainly can't swim in his deep end. He's too successful. Too intense. He's all man when I'm used to nothing but boys pretending to be grownups. He's everything I'm afraid to want and so far out of my league we might as well be different species entirely.

So he'll need to find a different artist to paint his mural. And a different graphic designer to help him with his website. He'll need to find someone else to glare at and flirt with and kiss.

It can't be me.

We're too different.

I Voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book

I enjoyed the previous book in this series. This one was good but I felt it was dragging a bit.

We met Molly in the previous book, she is Vera's BFF. Molly is the typical girl next door, she thinks she's a plain Jane girl. She has a job as a graphic designer and she loves to paint. But she is also a girl who is struggling with what she wants. She loves to paint but sees it as a hobby and she loves her job but she doesn't feel like she is good at it. She also can't stand conflict, growing up in a house where her parents where always fighting she avoids it at all costs.
That is why Ezra makes her so nervous, because it seems they are always fighting. But she also can't deny that he is HOT and she is attracted to him.

Ezra had a rough childhood, growing up with a single mother who died when he was young and he had to go into foster care. From there he learnt the value of hardworking which is why he is such a success and a workaholic. But meeting Molly makes him think that maybe he needs a bit of fun in his life and maybe he needs to find the balance between work and play.

For these two it seems it's a love hate relationship but they both can't deny their attraction to each other. But it will also have you on the edge with he chemistry and the tension between them.

An awesome read which will have you rooting for the girl next door and also maybe wanting to scream at her that she is Good enough for Ezra.
I can't wait to read Wyatt's sorry and maybe Vaughns....

Review by: Flavia

My first book by this author and I have to say I want to read the previous books in this series.

Brooke was a wild happy women with Italian roots and maybe in the phase of her rebellion stage with her parents, until she got pregnant and her boyfriend of more than two years just walked away. Now she is the mother of twins a boy and girl and raising them alone. She is happy and most of the time she can handle it all.
Michael is a flirt and if you asked his friends a bachelor for life. He doesn't do commitments and he doesn't do relationships. Until he volunteers to help Brooke out by looking after the twins. Before long he is hooked on Brooke and helping her building her own hairdresser at her house.

Spending time with Brooke and the kids is becoming more than he thought it would be. Now he can't picture his life without her in it. But will he be able to convince her that he isn't the total man-whore that she thinks he is and that he wants more than just this 'casual' thing they have.

A sweet romance that will keep you reading wanting to find out what happens at the end.

Excerpt

“Michael,” I said dumbly, like a big dumb idiot. “Wh-what are you doing here?”
Michael Whitfield was the kind of handsome that made me twitchy. It was easier to ignore when I’d been a whale of a pregnant person and he oh-so-kindly informed me that I held no appeal whatsoever to him because I was on the verge of single motherhood. Okay, fine, that wasn’t exactly what he said, but he’d been pretty clear that our relationship was platonic.
He smiled down at me, all straight blinding teeth and dark, scruffy face, the white t-shirt he wore underneath a dark gray hoodie stretched across his leanly muscular chest in a way that made me feel a little sweaty. “I’m the cavalry.”
“You are not.”
His eyebrows lifted at my snappish response, but no, no, nope, all the no in all the world. “I was with Julia when she got your text and they already had plans.”
I shifted Jacob in my arms and he peered around me at the tall, handsome man currently annoying his mommy. Well, he wasn’t annoying me, exactly. But I was annoyed in general and now Michael got to be my scapegoat. Yay for him. “Why didn’t she tell me that?”

Piper waddled over and gripped her chubby hands into Michael’s dark jeans. I was just about to apologize when he leaned over and picked her up with the kind of ease that had me speechless.
Effing speechless.
Me.

Well, let’s see ... I’m a wife and a mother. I’m a writer who wants to make people smile when they read my words. I own a dog that sheds roughly eighteen pounds of hair every day. I am obsessed with Outlander (both the books and the show). I’m almost exclusively a romance reader, which means some people will never consider me a literary snob. If I could meet one historical figure, it would be Jane Austen. I received my Bachelors in Public Relations and worked in health care marketing before I had my babies. I hate Twitter. I do it, but I hate it. Also, if you want to get on my good side, bring me wine and I'll love you forever.
